Deutsche Schule Riga

The German School Riga is a private international school which was founded in summer 2015. The school accepts both Latvian pupils and international children whose parents are staying in Latvia for a limited period of time. The school is currently attended by children from 20 countries (as of December 2017). Children learn German, English and a third language. At kindergarten and day care centre level, the German teachers are assisted by German-speaking local assistants who also understand Latvian, Russian and English. The purpose of the academic programmes at kindergarten and pre-school level is to teach the German language in order to give the pupils a good start in Year 1. In addition, our youngest children receive daily play sessions in English. Formal English lessons begin in pre-school. Primary school pupils learn a third (foreign) language in addition to German and English during four lessons per week, either Latvian or Russian. All languages are taught exclusively by native-speaking teachers. School lessons take place between 8.30 am and 3.30 pm. The subsequent afternoon programme includes homework support or individual tutoring, additional optional subjects and childcare until 18:30.
