“Baltic Game Industry - Empowering a Booster for Regional Development“ (BGI) s a three-year project within the framework of the European regional development programme Interreg for the Baltic Sea Region (BSR).
22 partners from Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden are working together to develop practical solutions to strengthen the digital games industry. The lead partner is BGZ Berliner Gesellschaft für internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH.
Project Goal
The aim of the project is to increase the attractiveness of the location for start-ups in the industry in order to support the establishment of games companies and retain them in the Baltic Sea region after a successful launch. In the long term, this should consolidate the region's appeal, which has grown considerably in recent years, motivate new investments and establish the industry as a strong economic sector in the Baltic Sea region.
Project Strategy
The strategy for this includes the following points:
- Improved location conditions for the establishment of young companies in the games industry
- Incubation models for the sustainable support of start-ups
- Development of new markets for the industry beyond the entertainment sector
The most important results are
- Adapted strategies and programmes as well as a good practice catalogue on framework conditions and policies for the promotion of the games industry in the Baltic Sea region
- Guidelines for game incubators to support the start-up of game companies - with models for incubation programmes, funding, mentoring and international cooperation
- A VR app for medical therapy, a reference model for VR in the healthcare sector and recommendations for VR applications in other industries
