Young Energy Europe 3.0 2024

In 2024, a total of 33 Energy Scouts from 23 companies in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania took part in the Young Energy Europe training program and identified potential savings in their companies. The identified improvement measures were translated into projects that can save significant amounts of CO₂ per year when implemented.

Thank you for an inspiring year with Young Energy Europe!

2024 was a complete success for the Young Energy Europe project! With workshops and award ceremonies in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, we were able to experience numerous innovative projects for energy and resource efficiency. Our participants developed impressive ideas that not only reduce energy costs in their companies but also make a valuable contribution to climate protection.

Special mention should be made of the best projects which were honored during the closing ceremonies:

Lithuania

The winner, Hilton Garden Inn (City Centre Hotel UAB), impressed with the implementation of a PV system and the optimization of HVAC systems. The hotel could install a photovoltaic system with 106 solar modules to generate up to 43.2 MWh of electricity per year, thereby reducing operating costs and cutting CO₂ emissions by 25.19 tons. It would also be possible to optimize the HVAC systems in the hotel rooms by using CO₂ sensors and improved control technology. This would reduce energy consumption by 53.2 MWh and CO₂ emissions by 27.45 tons per year.

Estonia

The best projects came from Wolf Group OÜ, Data Print OÜ and Builderish OÜ, which were recognized for their creative solutions. Wolf Group OÜ could use waste heat from compressors for a chemical preheating furnace, saving up to 211 MWh of electricity annually and reducing CO₂ emissions by 132 tons. Data Print OÜ would minimize heat loss by installing an air curtain system at the main entrance to their warehouse, potentially saving 56,862 kWh of energy per year and reducing CO₂ emissions by 35.55 tons. In addition, Data Print could optimize the energy consumption of their UV lamps through an automated monitoring system, which would save 49.6 MWh annually and reduce CO₂ emissions by 31 tons. Builderish OÜ proposed a sustainable business model for solar infrastructures such as solar carports and solar halls, which could improve both energy efficiency and land utilization through the direct integration of photovoltaic systems. In addition, a financing concept using Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) could enable companies to use renewable energy cost-effectively and reduce energy costs in the long term.

Latvia

Projects from Valsts nekustamie īpašumi VAS, Ezerkauliņi Agro SIA and Eco Baltia vide SIA secured the top places. Valsts nekustamie īpašumi VAS could optimize its energy consumption by improving the control of heating cables on gutters, which would save 101.54 MWh of electricity and reduce CO₂ emissions by 11.88 tons per year. Ezerkauliņi Agro SIA planned to introduce a hybrid lighting system with LED lamps in greenhouses, which could reduce electricity consumption by up to 4,428 MWh per year and cut CO₂ emissions by 518 tons. Eco Baltia vide SIA could significantly reduce fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions by optimizing daily transport routes with digital solutions and by switching to bio-CNG and HVO as fuel. A complete switch to these biofuels could reduce CO₂ emissions by more than 1300 tons per year

Every single participant has contributed to achieving our common goal: a more sustainable future. We would like to thank all participants, companies and experts!

Outlook for 2025

We are looking forward to training and inspiring young Energy Scouts again next year. Planning is already in full swing, and we will soon be announcing further information and dates for the next training programs. Stay tuned - together we will continue our journey to use energy and resources more efficiently and thus act sustainably.
